Serving our School, and Serving Others - Community Outreach and Missions

As an integral part of who we are, service, community outreach, and missions are part of our DNA! Intentional and authentic opportunities are provided throughout the school year for all students to participate in hands-on service, both within and outside the direct school community.   Students are exposed to mission’s work, community, and outreach service opportunities, as well as directly serving the school community within. All is done for the sole purpose of honoring the Lord and helping others.

Branching Out – Serving the Community Within

One of the ways that are students serve the community within is specifically, at the middle school level, in grades 5-8, students are challenged to “serve others” as Christ modeled. Service is an outward expression of one’s love and commitment to Christ. Weekly opportunities are provided to our middle school students to serve the community within through Reading Buddies, which is when our middle school students read to the younger students, Homework Helpers, which is when our middle school students provide help to our younger learners with their school work, Teacher Helpers, which is when our middle school students help our classroom teachers with any needs that they may have in the classrooms such as, making copies or organizing classroom libraires.  Students have also been able to help our administrative staff with office needs too!  When our students Branch Out, our entire learning community benefits and we are stronger together!

Outreach – Meeting the Needs Around Us

NSCS works exceedingly hard to meet the needs around us, and through the years we have the joy of partnering with the local chapter of DCF (Department of Children and Families), Beverly Boot Strap, an organization meeting the needs of homelessness, Project Haven, an organization working with homeless and displaced children and youth, My Brother's Table, and Bags of Hope. As we partner with these non-profits and others like them, our students are learning that we have an obligation as Christians, to lighten the load of those around us.  These outreach times typically are headed by our students, and the entire NSCS community is engaged.

Missions

March-into-Missions – Each year during the month of March, our students are exposed to direct Missions through testimonials from former and current missionaries who have served or who are serving either domestically or abroad.  These opportunities are rich, and provide relevant exposure to students as to the needs that exist around them, and how we, as the Body of Christ, can respond to such needs.

In a response to the students’ desire to “do more” in the way of supporting missions, several years ago the administration, along with students on both our Lynn and Beverly Campuses, decided to participate in on-going financial support for two Christian schools in two different countries. New Missions, Haiti, and Beautiful Beginnings Liberia, work with children grades preschool through 12th grade.  Working to support some of the most impoverished communities, New Missions and Beautiful Beginnings provide a Christ-centered education to children, as they bring not only excellent programming to children, but hope – hope that Jesus loves them and has a purpose a plan for their lives.  New Missions and Beautiful Beginnings are an integral part of our missionary support.
