NORTH SHORE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, Board of Directors

North Shore Christian School is governed by a board of up to twelve elected individuals. Members of our Board are committed to their role as supporters and advisors to our Senior Administrative Leadership Team (SALT). Through their time and giving, board members advance the mission of our learning community.

Sharon Carlson, Board Chair

Board Member since 2019, Sharon Carlson is self-employed as an Independent College Advisor, helping high school students navigate the college selection process. A student development professional with 30  years of experience in elementary and secondary education, Sharon founded Carlson Education Consulting in 2015. Sharon’s previous roles include serving as Director of Recruitment at Gordon College, and in the senior administration of Covenant Christian Academy.

Sharon earned her master’s degree in theological studies with a concentration in pastoral counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and her bachelor’s degree in biblical studies and English literature from Gordon College. Sharon and her husband, Chris, have been married for 34 years and are parents to two adult children. She and her family are members of First Congregational Church of Hamilton, where Sharon has served on the Board of Elders and Womens Ministry Leadership Team.

I’ve known NSCS for a long time and have always appreciated how deeply rooted the community is to faith as the foundation of the educational process,” she notes. “Every child is valued and nurtured and feels like an important member of the community. It is a privilege and a joy to serve with NSCS leaders and teachers”.

Looking to the future Sharon says she would like to see NSCS build on its long legacy of Christian education and expand its reach to serve more students. “Continuing to develop our admissions outreach and presence in our local communities will help us grow in the coming years” she says.

James Angelini, Board Candidate

James Angelini is a retired associate professor of accounting and taxation, and the former Director of the Master of Science in Taxation program at the Sawyer Business School at Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts. A CPA in Massachusetts, James has over 50 years of public accounting experience, and 40 years of experience in academia at Suffolk University, Northeastern University, the University of Rhode Island, and the University of Houston. He has published numerous research articles and monographs on various topics in federal and state taxation. He is also a consultant to the Beacon Hill Institute on various tax policy studies. James has been a board member for several nonprofit organizations, including educational institutions. James earned his Ph.D. in Accountancy from the University of Houston, his MBA in Taxation from Babson College, and his bachelor’s degree in accounting also from Babson College.

On his interest in joining the NSCS Board, James says: “Of the many “existential crises” we face today, none is more important than the crisis in our public school system, which has sadly incorporated the post-Christian culture of our society. Parents, more than ever, need support in providing Christian values to their children. NSCS provides that essential support along with an excellent education, and I am excited and happy to help”.

James and his wife, Emily, have been married for 47 years and have lived in Beverly for
17 years. They have two children and three grandchildren and are members of St. Joseph
Parish in Wakefield, MA.  James is an avid woodworker and a cantor at St. Williams Church in Tewksbury, MA.

Steven Crespo, Board Candidate

Steven and his wife Andrea have three grown children who have all attended Boxford Academy and Covenant Christian Academy, and went on to study at Liberty University in Virginia. He and his wife believe that early Christian education is vitally important at a time when God has been removed from the classroom of our public schools and when Christian principles are no longer felt to be relevant in our society.

Steven and his family live in Topsfield MA and have attended International Family Church (soon to be renamed All People) in North Reading for the last 30 years.

Kevin Saliba, Board Candidate

Joining NSCS as a board candidate in December 2023, Kevin Saliba’s professional experience has been in full-time church ministry, team building, fostering community, and leadership in the hospitality industry. Kevin has spent the last five years of his career in full-time church ministry most recently as the Director of Connections & Volunteer Recruitment. While he was in this role he spearheaded various initiatives including refining assimilation processes, managing budgets, organizing and leading community and church-wide events, and implementing effective systems of connection.

Kevin values protecting the unwavering commitment of NSCS to biblical teachings within a school context. Without strong faithful leadership, private Christian schools, and their students, are susceptible to the pressures and influences of worldly ideologies. Inspired by the scriptures teaching of “training up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 ESV he feels the weight of responsibility of disciplining the next generation, stating that it starts in his household.

Kevin envisions the culture of NSCS continuing to reflect the vibrancy, grace, and faithfulness of a gospel-centered church while maintaining academic rigor. His hope for the future includes students and parents at NSCS experiencing an even greater sense of community, and an environment where shared values and relationships can flourish. That NSCS impact would grow and be a shining light of The Lord’s transformative power, and grace, in the community it resides in.

Kevin lives in Beverly with his wife, Kimmie, daughter June, and sons Sawyer and Owen. They attend Trinity Evangelical Church in North Reading. Kevin’s favorite part of the day is bringing his oldest, June, to school each morning and seeing all the great things that are happening at NSCS.

Michael Mastromatteo, Board Member

Board member since 2023.  Michael F Mastromatteo, M.D. is a board-certified physician and has been in practice for 26 years.  He has served on several committees during his tenure in a busy private practice and was nominated for the board of directors.  He was also the medical director of the Vein Specialists of the North Shore and Vascular Access of the North Shore, located in the Cummings Center in Beverly.

Michael and his wife Lisa decided in the summer of 2021 to enroll their 4th grade daughter Ella in North Shore Christian School.  Having lived in Beverly for years, they were somewhat familiar with the school. But after meeting with Head of School Pam Heintz, it became clear that NSCS shared the same ideals they were looking for in education: Christian, Bible-based learning with focus on reading and writing, free from the jurisdiction of the state.  He desires to see substantial growth in admissions in the upcoming years, as he views NSCS as a beacon of light alternative to an otherwise amoral and broken public education system.

Michael and his family enjoy several activities together including playing music, cooking, baking, golfing, fishing, skiing, arts and crafts, farm life and horseback riding.  They attend Calvary Christian Church in Lynnfield and St. Mary in Beverly. They reside in Beverly and have two Labrador retrievers, Moose and Matilda.
