Christian Studies, Music, & Middle School Director
Larry Kamp (B. Mus. Houghton College; M.S.M. Boston University) has a unique background in theology, music, and history. He has taught music at NSCS since
1982 and Bible since 1994. In the past decade, Mr. Kamp has developed substantial curriculum units in Christian studies and social ethics, especially in the areas of
Holocaust Studies and Race and Membership study. Mr. Kamp is a member of the Teacher Leadership Team at Facing History and Ourselves, Inc. and has extended his teaching
well beyond the classroom through parent and teacher workshops. Mr. Kamp is the Music Director of the Community Covenant Church in Peabody and lives in Lynn with his wife
Lianne and their three children.
Grade 6
Cheryl Wilfert’s many gifts include a strong knowledge of literature, wide experience in mathematics education, and a substantial background in Biblical studies. Mrs. Wilfert
graduated cum laude from Southeastern Bible College, with a degree in Bible and also in Education. After several years of experience in Alabama and New Hampshire, she became a beloved member of
our staff in 1999. Since then, she has contributed to the development of curriculum and instruction at NSCS in many ways.
Language Arts/Humanities
While Miss Lindsay is in a new role, she is not new to NSCS. She served us well last year as a substitute teacher. Miss Lindsay gradated with honors from Salem State College
in English and brings a passion for literature and writing.
Science
Denise Horwood, a graduate of Boston State College and Gordon Conwell School Theological Seminary, has a background in science, physical education, and Science theology. This
preparation, as well as years of previous teaching experience at Lexington Christian Academy, has led Miss Horwood to teach science in multiple grades, coach basketball, direct the annual 8th grade
Wilderness trip, and lead the middle school worship team. As you might guess, the development of an outdoor science program is among her ambitions.
Math
Dave Sawyer, who has taught middle school mathematics for more than 35 years, joined our staff in 2002. Since then, his background in mathematics education and his ample experience,
have helped produce and exemplary program for 7th grade math and 8th grade Algebra students. His work as Math Team Coordinator has enriched the experience of middle school students and encouraged
unique success that has been noted by parents of many alumni.
